Many people may be unaware that a great amount of medical research is funded by the pharmaceutical industry. This funding and the huge amount of influence that comes with it, can be harmful to the purity of the research and detrimental to the medical fraternity that rely upon it. This can result in possible harm to patients who are the recipients of medications for which studies have been commissioned and funded by the companies that manufacture them.

It is time that scientific evaluations of tests and treatments and the circulation of the results are conducted by researchers that are free from the companies and manufacturers that benefit financially from the resultant prescribing and sales of pharmaceutical products. Truly independent studies should result in less distorted and bias results, which can cause harm to patients.
