Menopause is a normal part of life and just like puberty, it is not a disease. Menopause can be officially declared when there has been a absence of menstruation for more than 12 months. Menopause is generally preceded by peri menopause which is a transitional stage with some of the symptoms of menopause and is usually accompanied by irregular periods. There are however, many signs that lead up to menopause and many of these signs or symptoms will extend beyond the actual start of Menopause.
